How To Start Windows XP System Restore From a Command Prompt

System Restore is a great utility to help "roll back" your Windows XP system to an earlier state, undoing any system changes that may have caused an issue. Often times though, a problem is so bad that entering Windows XP normally or even in Safe Mode is not possible so System Restore can not be run.

Fortunately, you can run System Restore from a command line interface without needing to fully load Windows XP.

Difficulty: Easy
Time Required: Less than 30 minutes

Here's How:

  1. Boot to Windows XP Safe Mode With Command Prompt.

  2. At the command prompt, type C:\windows\system32\restore\rstrui.exe and press Enter.

  3. Follow the instructions given to perform the System Restore process.
